A dentist’s office is sometimes seen as a painful and scary place. But we discourage that at The Yuma Family Dentist. But try as we might, root canals still have a strong association with pain. It doesn’t need to be that way.
A root canal becomes necessary when a tooth is badly infected or decayed. Ask anyone who’s been there: infected teeth can really hurt. A root canal is going to alleviate that pain.
Root canals are done to clean the inside of the tooth by removing the bacteria, soft tissue (called pulp), decayed nerve tissue, and any debris that may be causing the infection and pain. Once it’s cleaned out, we seal the tooth to prevent further decay and finish by applying a crown or filling. This is the process and purpose of a root canal.
To put it another way, root canals have a bad reputation, and with modern sedation dentistry, it is not deserved. Though a root canal can be intimidating or scary, educating yourself and talking to us can relieve much of your anxiety.
The Yuma Dentist performs root canals, and also offers general dentistry. Never ignore an aching tooth! Schedule an appointment with us today.
